Surrounded by mountains, Sarajevo is the capital city of Bosnia & Herzegovina located on the Miljacka River. During the 1990s, the Bosnian war took place which damaged parts of the city and ultimately ended up dividing the country. However, in the last 20 years, the city has been extensively repaired and now houses many interesting museums and art galleries. Sarajevo also has a unique nightlife for those looking to learn more about the music scene. It was in Sarajevo too that Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated sparking the events that led to the start of WW1.
